Dear Mum,

I suppose you think that it is just about time I wrote. I didn't get any letters for about 10 weeks. But I got one the other day dated March the 20th so there must be a good few I never got. We haven't had too sweet a time here these past few weeks, been out in the trenches a few miles out from the CENSORED sentry nearly every night & digging trenches through the day & a quart & a half of water per day to drink. It is pretty hot here now, the temperature for the last week has been between 110 & 120 in the shade but there is no shade where we are. I hope to be well away from Egypt before this reaches you. I am sick of the sight of dust. I suppose winter is in full swing over there now. What a pity you couldn't take a bit of the heat of here & put it on there. There isn't much news to tell. Hoping everybody is well.

I remain your aff son.
