July 1918

Dear Mum,

Just a line to let you know how I am getting on. I was shifted to this hospital about a week ago. I am pretty nearly right again, up out bed & I suppose I will be out of the hospital in a couple of weeks. The cut over the left eye is just about healed up. It went right across the top of the eye between the eye and the eyebrow. So you can see the eye had a pretty close shave. It knocked out a bit of bone. The sight is not good at present. You can only see things very hazy & they have to be pretty close then. I don't know wether it will be any better or not. I don't think it will ever be the same as before. I got the money alright. You mentioned a chap named Critten in several of your letters. I know him well. He was hit pretty badly in the July stunt. He is a grand chap.

I remain your aff son,

Frank.

P.S. Address my letters to the old address 59th Batt.
