January 20th, 1919

Dear Mum,

Just a few lines to let you know I am not dead yet. The lord only knows when we will get home. We get passed over every time while 1918 get sent home. I am just about getting sick of it. I don't think that we will get away from here for months. There have been a lot of reinforcements who never got any farther than England sent home. I suppose as soon as they have finished their little holiday all the reinforcements will be sent home before us & arrive home as great heroes. I had 2 letters from you the other day. Nov 3rd & 10th I got the 20 pounds alright about 10 days after I sent for it. The weather is a bit cold at present but not too bad for this time of the year. Have you heard whether Don Beaton got out of Germany. I suppose Snowy has taken to hard toil by now. Did Les Riches get away or not. I suppose he just about missed. We are doing nothing here, just wasting time & it gets on your nerves doing nothing. News is scarce. Hoping everybody is well.

I remain your aff son,

Frank.
